Many hotels are taking the initiative to practice conservation methods to lower the impact they have on their surroundings. At the same time, these hotels provide a comfortable stay for all their guests. Go green by booking a room in some of the most eco-friendly hotels in San Francisco.
EarthCare is an award-winning program adopted by Palomar’s Kimpton group. Hotel Palomar uses recycling and reusable methods, as well as non-chemical products for housekeeping. Along with energy and water saving practices in all its guest rooms, the toiletries are also organic and eco-certified. Hotel Palomar, in the heart of downtown San Francisco, is a pet-friendly property – be sure to meet the house pooch, Maverick, who is always around to meet and greet his fellow furry friends. On the fifth floor, the elegant and hip French restaurant called Dirty Habit provides an urban ambiance with a heated outdoor patio.
Designed by celebrities, rooms at Hotel Triton are tastefully adorned with a bright yellow and green color palette. The most interesting room is the Sweet Suite, which is entirely Häagen Dazs inspired. The best part is the customized ice cream cabinet filled with complimentary Häagen Dazs pints of different flavors – a part of the Sweet Suite tab from the guests is donated to charity. As part of the Kimpton group, Hotel Triton also practices the EarthCare program. The seventh floor has air purifiers and water filtration systems, and their towel reuse program helps to reduce water and detergent use by 25%.
At Hotel Zetta, guests who are eco-conscious can opt to decline housekeeping services in exchange for a $10 minibar credit. The hotel is home to some of the most elegant restaurants in San Francisco like the cool Cavalier, a British restaurant serving all three meals. The hotel does not offer spa service, but the nearby Burke Spa caters to all the guests staying at the Zetta. With an in-room spa treatment and dining options, there’s no doubt you’ll be pampered.
The Orchard Hotel
The Orchard Hotel — partnered with its sister property, the Orchard Garden Hotel — is one of the first few hotels in United States to earn an LEED certification. The hotel uses only organic, citrus-based products for cleaning and LED lighting as part of the Green Initiative. With the hotel’s classical façade, the marble flooring, and the vaulted ceiling, you’ll love the amazing views of Bush Street from the Daffodil Restaurant.
When it comes to nurturing the environment, Hotel Carlton is all about saving the planet. Recognized for being the first hotel in San Francisco to install solar panels, the Hotel Carlton expects to reduce its electricity usage by 12%. The hotel practices many other green initiatives including the usage of organic food in their Arabic-Fusion restaurant called Saha. Make sure you’re around to try the complimentary wine session held each evening at the lobby while you enjoy exploring the tribal artifacts and a collection of photographs inspired from around the world.
