Top Things to do in Houston this Weekend

Houston is a world leader in a variety of industries like space, petroleum and air conditioning. That said, with world-class dining, architectural museums and vibrant art scene, tourists will find plenty of things to do in Houston. If you’re visiting Houston this weekend, be sure to add these fun things to your itinerary.

Buffalo Bayou

Whether you’re with family, kids or pets, Buffalo Bayou is a great place to spend your weekend. The park features miles of trails where you can choose to stroll the area or rent a bike. If you’re staying in any of the downtown hotels in Houston, consider heading to the park for a run as an alternative to using the on-site fitness center. Art lovers can take a walking tour to admire art works by Mel Chin and Henry Moore.

San Jacinto Battleground Historic Site

San Jacinto Historic Site is one of the free things to check out in Houston. You’ll get to learn about the birth of Texas and its independence from Mexico in 1836. After a short hike to the San Jacinto monument, watch a documentary of the events that took place during the battle, after which you can proceed to the observation deck to marvel at the views of the Houston city and the battleground. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, stroll along the marsh trail featuring a bottomland forest swarmed with exotic species.

Space Center Houston

Spend a few hours exploring the visitor’s space center, one of the few places in the world where you can experience space without training. With simulators, space shuttle, interactive live performance and detailed NASA exhibits, it’s no surprise Houston is a paradise not for adults alone but kids too.

Houston Zoo

Houston Zoo is home to plenty of animals like bears, tigers, cougars and African gorillas. The indoors are well shaded while some are air-conditioned so don’t let the Houston summers dissuade you from exploring areas outside of your hotel. If you’re visiting in April or May, consider planning in advance, as it can get crowded with school kids.

Galleria Mall

Indulge in a retail therapy at the Galleria, Houston’s eclectic shopping complex featuring a plethora of stores and food kiosks. Some of the established retailers that attract millions of tourists are Macy’s, Nordstrom, Tiffany & Co and Dior. You can also choose from an array of dining options like The Oceanire Seafood Room and dessert favorites including The Cheesecake Factory.

When you’re tired of all the monument sightseeing, sign up for an exhilarating skydiving adventure. Even if you’re a first-timer, you can choose to go tandem so you don’t need to worry about controlling your free fall.

A visit to the fourth-largest city in Texas is incomplete without experiencing the dazzling nightlife the city has to offer. Have you been to any of these attractions before? Would you like to add any places to this list? Write your comments below.
